Year One

Welcome to the Year 1 class page.

I'm Mrs Chew, the class teacher.

In Year 1, we have a broad and engaging curriculum, where the children are encouraged to be resilient and independent throughout all challenges.

Class Routines

Our morning starts when the children come in and settle down to complete a small task such as handwriting or reading before register. We then split into groups for our phonics lessons the children are streamed in ability for this. Phonics is followed by a Literacy lesson where the children focus on a story from our termly author, the children will be encouraged to complete a small task and write independently using their phonic knowledge. After playtime we start Maths, we explore basic mathematical skills, the main focus in Y1 is place value.

 Our afternoons consist of:

Monday – PE and Geography / History

Tuesday - Science, RE,

Wednesday - Art / Design Technology and Music

Thursdays- Computing and Music by Mr Martin

Friday PE and PSHE/ French

Y1 have lunch in the hall at 12pm, the children are then supervised by the lunchtime staff. for success

All home support is hugely appreciated and makes a positive impact on your child's learning. Please support your child by ensuring they read at least 5 times a week, with at least 5 pages per night. Please bring diaries/books into school daily and use diaries to communicate with me throughout the week.

Homework will be set each Friday on Spelling Shed and TT Rock stars.

This year, we are continuing with the 'Walk to School' scheme, where children receive badges for taking part and increasing their fitness. If you have to drive your child to school, they can still achieve an active badge by parking at the shops and walking the remaining distance.

Our PE this year is Monday and Wednesday.

The children will have a whole school assembly on a Monday and Friday.

If you have any questions about your child’s learning, please contact me on Class dojo
