Home Learning Year 5 Jan 2021

Dear Parents/Carers

As a school, it is our duty to ensure that we are still providing an education to those pupils who cannot come into school for reasons surrounding COVID-19. When considering how we can best support our pupils, we have looked at improving the quality of our existing offer and have also used feedback from the parent survey to inform our decisions. 

Remote lessons will be set to run alongside the lessons that have been planned by the class teacher who is delivering these from home/school. Your child will have access to home learning in a variety of ways.

We are using Showbie platform to deliver home learning resources, videos and lessons and a log in will be your child’s diaries.  If your child does not have access, we have laptops/I pads we can send home. Alternatively, your child can access the CGP books and paper packs. Also, if your child would like to do any extra learning, we have provided paper packs too. 

Children will need logins TT Rockstars, Spelling Shed, Purple mash, Showbie and Maths Flex.

Week beginning 11th January Tasks

Monday 18th January 2021 

Day One 

9am - Reading. Please use this time to read various texts, books, magazines or online resources. 

9.30am – 10.30am – Live lesson via Showbie linked to Maths. Children will need Power Maths Books and red exercise book or record directly on Showbie.

 Learning Objective - To understand, explain and reliably find multiples of numbers

In this lesson, children will learn the meaning of the mathematical term ‘multiple’. They will spot patterns in multiples of numbers and use these to make generalisations and predictions.

 11.00am – 12.00pm – Live lesson via Showbie linked to English. Children will need to record in blue exercise books or directly on Showbie.

 Learning Objective- To identify the features of Instructions

Activity – In this lesson, children will be learning the features of writing instruction and the key principles. 

 12- 1pm Lunch

 Learning Objective – To find out about the structure of the Earth

In this lesson, children will name the layers of soil, earth and tectonic plates.

 1.50pm - Independently complete the task set. 

2.45pm - Upload photographs, work and evidence to Showbie. 

 

 Tuesday 19th January 2021 

 Day Two

 Learning Objective - To Identify multiples and factors

In this lesson, children will learn the meaning of the mathematical term ‘factor’ and use multiplication and division to find factors. They will spot patterns in factors of numbers and use these to make generalisations and predictions.

 Learning Objective-  To write using organisation devices

In this lesson, children will write a draft of their introduction and apply use of bullet points to identify what is needed to complete the instructions.

 Learning Objective – To find out about how volcanoes are formed and impact the Earth

In this lesson, children will explain how volcanoes are formed.

 Wednesday 20th January 2021 

 Day Three

 Learning Objective – To reliably identify prime and composite numbers

In this lesson, children will learn about prime numbers and how they are different to other numbers. They will learn the correct vocabulary of prime and composite numbers and how to differentiate between them.

 11.00am – 12.00pm – Live lesson via Showbie linked to English. Children will need to record in blue exercise books or directly on Showbie.

 Learning Objective-  To write using chronological ordering

In this lesson, children will use imperative verbs conjunctions, prepositions and adverbs to show time, place and cause to covey clarity of instructions and write their draft method.

In this lesson, children will explain what causes earthquakes and how they are measured.

  Thursday 21st January 2021

 Learning Objective - To find factors and confidently solve mathematical puzzles and problems

In this lesson, children will use their learning about prime numbers to help them solve mathematical problems and puzzles involving breaking down numbers into factors. They will use the knowledge and understanding to explain their reasoning.

 Learning Objective- To write a draft instruction using key features and devices

In this lesson, children will bring their learning together to independently write a draft version of their instructions for surviving a volcanic eruption

 Friday 22nd January 2021

 Learning Objective – To recognise and use square numbers and cube numbers

In this lesson, children will learn about square numbers and how to recognise and represent square numbers pictorially before linking this to using notation, including squared (x2). Children will find square numbers in the multiplication grid and use them to solve calculations and problems.

 Learning Objective-  To edit and write a final instruction

In this lesson, children will review their independent writing from the previous lesson and make final edits before publishing their writing.
